Box Stock and Driver classes

Two beginner-friendly grids — not one mash-up

Box Stock and Driver are related, but they are not the same class.

• Box Stock — factory-spec Kyosho RWD Readysets (MR-04 is our reference; MR-03 only where the published sheet allows). Brushed motor, AAA NiMH, minimal mods. Races are decided by lines and consistency, not who spent the most.
• Driver — the same Box Stock rules and hardware, run at half speed. Ideal for juniors, first-timers, or anyone who wants full stock tech with a gentler pace while they learn the track.

Why Box Stock works

Everyone starts from a similar performance level. You can buy a Readyset, fit racing tyres for our foam RCP track at Cygnet Town Hall, charge a set of AAA cells, and race. Focus on throttle control, apexes, and racecraft — not a shopping list of hop-ups.

Experienced drivers still run Box Stock for close racing and mentoring. Small mistakes show up when the cars are evenly matched.

Why Driver exists

Half speed is not “less real.” It is the same car, same rules, slower absolute pace — so newcomers can finish heats, learn marshalling, and build confidence before jumping to full Box Stock pace.

It also puts new drivers on the same grid as experienced ones. Veterans still turn up for Driver because the racing is close, the mistakes are funny instead of expensive, and the pits stay loud with laughs. You get real racecraft — lines, traffic, recovering from a wall — without the intimidation of a full-pace field. Plenty of people keep running Driver long after their first night because it is simply a good time.

Getting on track

1. Check Events for the next meet at Cygnet.
2. Bring a legal Readyset (or ask about a loaner).
3. Enter Driver or Box Stock as suits you — we will help at tech.
4. Marshal when you are not driving.
